LFW Advisory Board selects 'Future of Fashion' for March event

Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) Advisory Board Members met on 28th January 2009 to select GenNext and Emerging designers for the upcoming LFW Fall Winter'09 from 27th to 31st March.
This season, LFW has received 97 applications - 53 for GenNext; 36 for Emerging designers and 8 accessory designers from 20 cities across the country. The advisory board members shortlisted 18 of the most talented designers who met the criteria of high quality standards of creativity and marketability; out of which eight were GenNext, six emerging and four accessory designers.

The Lakmé Fashion Week Advisory Board comprises key stakeholders from the fashion fraternity such as educationists, buyers, media personalities and designers. The list of members present includes eminent names in the beauty and fashion industry like Dr Alka Nishar – AZA, Dr Koshy – Apparel Export Promotion Council, Gaurav Mahajan – Westside, N. Rajaram - Vice President, Lakme, designer Narendra Kumar, Nonita Kalra – Elle, Priya Tanna – Vogue, Sangita Sinh Kathiwada - Melange, Shefalee Vasudev - Marie Claire. It was co-chaired by Anil Chopra – Advisor, Lakme and Vikram Raizada - VP and Head of fashion, IMG.
Encouraged by the outstanding response last season, LFW has continued the initiative of Menswear day, Group accessory show and ArtStudio. Also, in an endeavour to engage better with the Fashion and Buyer community LFW Fall Winter'09 will be held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel, Mumbai, one of the world leaders in luxury business hotels.
Expressing his views on the current initiatives, Mr. Anil Chopra, Advisor-Lakmé said, “Lakmé Fashion Week believes in nurturing talent along with re-inventing itself every season. LFW being the only fashion trade event in India's commercial capital - Mumbai, it attracts designers from all categories and cities. We have received 71% applications from other cities across India making LFW a truly national event. While on the one hand we have renowned designer Anamika Khanna doing the Lakme Grand Finale, we also provide new talent a platform in this vast and highly competitive industry.”
Vikram Raizada, Head Fashion - IMG shared his enthusiasm regarding the selected designers, “Lakmé Fashion Week has always proved itself to be a national platform with designers participating from all corners of the country. As always there has been a great response from designers. The entries this season are a clear indication of the fact that Mumbai is OPEN FOR BUSINESS.”
