FDDI gets good response from visitors at ILGF

Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) participated in the 14th International Leather Goods Fair (ILGF), which was held between 22nd - 24th February 2009 at stall number B-3.

"The fair was successful to reinforce FDDI's image in the mind of the students, parents & other prominent schools and colleges & provide a direct contact opportunity wherein prospective students gained a first hand exposure to FDDI's courses & career thereafter." Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI.

"There is an urgent need to increase domestic as well as export markets for leather goods," said the West Bengal Finance Minister, Mr. Asim Dasgupta, at the inaugural ceremony of the fair, in Kolkata.

The fair was initially scheduled from February 20-22, 2009 at Milan Mela, the Permanent Exhibition Complex, Kolkata. But, due to some unavoidable circumstances the fair was shifted to ITC Hotel-The Sonar Kolkata.

The fair was organized in close collaboration with Council for Leather Exports (CLE) and India Leather Products Association (ILPA).

About 40 leading companies from India and abroad participated in this event. The exhibition showcased a wide range of leather products like handbags, wallets, portfolios, rucksucks, brief bags, belts, travel goods, industrial leather gloves, finished leather, leather goods accessories, leather goods manufacturing machinery, leather processing chemicals etc.

"The ILGF was one of the ideal platforms where all persons of leather goods trade gathered at one point, to enhance the business prospect. The fair also created a direct link to meet students & experts of different fashion schools and institutes." Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary FDDI.

Under the Market Assess Initiative (MAI) Scheme of the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce and CLE with the help of Freya - the Design Studio organized the visit of foreign buyers from West Europe, USA, South Africa, Australia and other developed and developing market of the world.

During the fair, brochure and magazine of FDDI were distributed to the students who came to visit the fair seeking career opportunities in these areas. FDDI also displayed its publications and informed about its laboratory services, training programmes and consultancy services through brochure and one-to-one meeting.

According to Mr. Shashi Bhushan Shukla, IRS, Secretary, FDDI, "The ILGF was one of the ideal platforms where all persons of leather goods trade gathered at one point, to enhance the business prospect. The fair also created a direct link to meet students & experts of different fashion schools and institutes."

On behalf of FDDI, Ms Meghana Singh, Ms Aditi Sharma, Ms Litika Negi, Mr. Aritra Das & Mr. Samuel Chakraborty were present at the stall. FDDI got good response from visitors.
