The current placement season is witnessing a big leap in the number of participating companies at Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI).

“The students are managing to bag diverse offers despite the global economic downturn with pay packets a tad lower from last year. This is perhaps, because the job market is down and companies are trying to negotiate on the salaries.” - Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI.

Despite the global economic slowdown, the institute has witnessed the presence of major international retail, leather goods and footwear companies this season for the various professional programmes conducted through Centre for Retail Management (CRM), Centre for Leather Goods & Accessories Design (CLGAD) & Centre for Footwear Design & Technology (CFDT) at the institute.

So far, around 70% students of CRM, 55% - 60% students of CLGAD and more than 55% students of CFDT have been placed in respective industries. The students are placed in their dream organizations with the desired profile.

According to Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI, “Due to the value based education culture at FDDI, the students are managing to bag diverse offers despite the global economic downturn with pay packets a tad lower from last year. This is perhaps, because the job market is down and companies are trying to negotiate on the salaries.”

This year, the campus placement has witnessed the presence of more than 120 major international retail, leather goods and footwear companies. Puma, Ritu Wears, Lacoste, Bata India Ltd., Nike India, Alpine, Madura Garments, Van Heusan, Cobra Group, TNG, Leather Tech, Liberty, Jasper India, Valencia Apparels, NA Associates, Versatile Group, Layap & Hgnis, Levis, Café Coffee Day, Tata Teleservices Ltd., Japan Airlines, Swarovski India Pvt. Ltd., Small Wonder, Club Mahindra, Tata International, Indiamart, Shin Collections, CnM(Chunmun), Can Bean Bags, SSIPL, Hariyali Kisan Bazar, Coudhary Cheese Bazaar, SBI, Catmoss, Gati, Asmi Firefly, Retail Store, Eternal Concept, Aryaman Export, Lupin, Pharceuticals, Rajda International, Palash International, Alpine Apparels , Super House, Access Development, Lyod Baker, D2 International, Drish International, Rishi Exports, Relaxo, Tata International, Result Plus, Florence, ALF Barik, Zeta Leathers, Expo International, Prachi Leathers, G&D Incorporation, Saalim Group, Centre of Exellence in Design Ltd., Prime Polyrub, Carlton London, Tej Shoes, Liner Shoes, Tirubala, Melvo GMBH, Franco Leone Shoes Pvt. Ltd., Vikas Global One Ltd., Diamond Shoes, Aryaman Footwear etc. were some of the companies that selected students through campus placements.

“Anticipating the future consequences of the recent global economy meltdown, the institute also plans to incorporate industry, alumni and students' feedback to fine-tune the 2010 placement season.” - Mr. Rajeev Lakhara, IRS, Managing Director, FDDI.

Mr. Lakhara further said that, “FDDI is also bit affected of the impact of global economic slowdown & so is prepared for an extended placement season this year. The increase in batch strength has also necessitated an extension in the placement period.”
