It's a thrill of a lifetime for Thornhill resident Carol Ching, 18, winner of the first-ever Cashmere Design Contest, a national competition that challenged Canadians to create original BT Couture from 100 per cent pure, soft and luxurious Cashmere - Canada's best-selling bathroom tissue.

"I'm so excited!" says the young fashion designer who's awaiting acceptance at several top Canadian fashion design schools. "I saw the contest promoted during Project Runway Canada and instantly decided to take the challenge."

Cashmere's first consumer fashion design contest attracted more than 40 entries from across the country. "We are completely blown away by the quality, beauty and originality of the fashions created by Canadian consumers," says Nancy Marcus, Corporate Vice President, Consumer Marketing at Kruger Products, maker of Cashmere. "Our first-ever consumer competition is a rollout of our international award-winning White Cashmere Collection, which is now entering its sixth amazing year; and clearly demonstrates our strong support of Canada's fashion community," she says.

The White Cashmere Collection 2009 will feature 15 top Canadian designers and their vision of Fashion with Compassion in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Starring Project Runway winner Sunny Fong and such well-known designers as Paul Hardy, Tavan & Mitto and Greta Constantine, it will take to the runway in Toronto on Wednesday, September 23, 2009. Sixty-six rolls, 90 days equal one beautiful dress

Carol's winning Cashmere evening gown took 66 rolls of bathroom tissue and more than 100 hours to complete. "I worked on it for three months in my spare time," she says of her Versace-inspired creation that features a fitted, asymmetrical bodice floating atop a cloud-like skirt comprised of hundreds of hand-folded BT ruffles. Carol's stunning couture wowed the judges with its intricacy and won her the Grand Prize, a Trip for Two to New York Fashion Week this Fall 2009.
