Gioconda Law in NYC to focus on brand protection litigation

Vendors selling knockoff merchandise this holiday season have one more thing to worry about. On the heels of worldwide anti- counterfeiting raids conducted by law enforcement authorities, a unique law firm dedicated to brand protection and anti-counterfeiting opened in New York City.
After almost a decade and a half representing some of the world's most famous brands as a partner and associate at the prestigious international law firms of Kirkland & Ellis LLP and DLA Piper LLP (US), Joseph C. Gioconda has launched a new law firm that will focus on brand protection litigation, counseling and investigations.
Bringing together an experienced team of attorneys, investigators, analysts and consultants, the Gioconda Law Group will serve companies in dynamic industries such as fashion and luxury goods, jewelry, footwear, eyewear, pharmaceuticals, toys, software, video games and sporting goods.
"Brands and product designs are among the most important assets that a company owns, so it is critical that businesses take all necessary measures to protect them," Gioconda said. "Because of our expertise, size and focus on brand protection, we will be able to offer clients large law firm quality and service, but with very reasonable billing rates and pricing options. It's an incredibly exciting opportunity."
Gioconda has lectured at his alma mater Yale Law School, and has been widely quoted in the legal, business and general press on brand protection issues. He has been a legal commentator on CNN, NBC and MSNBC, and was featured in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. He also has experience drafting Intellectual Property legislation for the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Gioconda serves on the Enforcement Committee of the International Trademark Association (INTA), which advocates global policies to harmonize the legal certainty of trademarks. Author Tim Phillips also profiled his work in the acclaimed book Knockoff: The Deadly Trade in Counterfeit Goods.
