After a successful Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) Fashion Media Workshop last year, LFW organized a Fashion Workshop Series 'From Sketchpad to Closet' in collaboration with Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD) on February 18, 2010 at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. The day long workshop explored the various stages of a designer's journey, from bringing inspirations alive into a garment to selling it to the end consumer.

The workshop was divided into three sessions - From Ideation to Silhouettes, The Fashion Show and The Buyers and Production and Marketing /Sales; the highlights are as follows:

Session I - From Ideation to Silhouettes
The first session comprised of ace designers Aki Narula, Anuj Sharma, James Ferreira and Narendra Kumar discussing the foundation of fashion and inspiration; a lesson in creativity and simplicity like no other teaching platform. The workshop also offered students and aspiring designers direct access to an eminent panel via a question answer session.

The segment allowed the viewers to understand the world from the designers perspective, the look, the fabric, the colors, the prints, and the importance of knowing how to cut and sew.

Session II - The Fashion Show and The Buyers
The second session was represented by leading senior fashion media representatives - Bandana Tiwari - Vogue, Pearl Shah – Marie Claire and Sathya Saran- DNA ME. The discussion revolved around how the media analyze designer's collections. The panel also advised students and aspiring designers to be aware of their audience and study trends set around the world.

The segment continued with Gaurav Mahajan-Westside and Sangita Kathiwada-Melange presenting their perspectives on the mass and boutique retail markets. They also provided an inside view on the realities between consignment versus direct buys to buyers and designers.
