Leather pact signed with China

A team of 13 members from the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) visited China during November 8 and 11, 2005, and has designed a plan for the development of leather trade between producers of the two countries.

The Indian side sought Chinese investments in the leather industry through foreign direct investment (FDI), joint ventures and technical co-operation agreements, CLE stated.

Key secotrs for joint ventures have been identified for growth of trade and exchange in the leather industry between the two countries.

Admitting the fact that India dominated the shoe and leather goods markets in South Asia, the leather industry in Guangdong province showed keen desire to work with Indian leather industry to set up profitable joint ventures.

Chinese and their Indian counterparts decided to work to enhance communication to encourage common growth of their leather industry.

Guangdong Leather Industry Association and the Association of Guangdong shoe manufacturers has decided to send a delegation to India for the purpose of investment and collaboration in India.
