RIL bags 'Golden Peacock Innovation Award - 2005'

Fiber intermediates maker Reliance Industries Limited IRIL) has received the prestigious Golden Peacock Innovation Award (GPIA) for the year 2005 in the Petroleum Sector.

Chief Minister of Delhi - Smt. Sheila Dixit in the august presence of His Holiness - Pandit Ravi Shankar and Dr. Madhav Mehra - President of World Council For Corporate Governance, presented the Award to Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).

This year 7 companies received the Golden Peacock Innovation Award in the various categories out of the 116 applications that were received for the Innovation Award.

Reliance Industries Limited received the Golden Peacock Innovation Award (GPIA) for development of zeolite based sulpur selective catalyst and the process for manufacturing of para-diethylbenzene (commonly known as PDEB).

Human resources with requisite scientific competency in the area of catalysis were sourced from R&D unit of Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Limited and engineering competencies from the RIL - Hazira Unit. This innovation was implemented at the Hazira unit of Reliance Industries Limited.

The innovation has led to development of team-competency for in - house niche technology and strategic utilization of resources (inoperative assets being included). It has inculcated self-reliance in a way that Reliance complexes using in-house PDEB, produced 1000 MTA of which 600 MTA was successfully used at various plants.

Besides, precious foreign exchange saving , the innovation has led to total import substitution. It has broadened new business avenues, as sufficient resources were available for expansion to capture the global market of the PDEB. Reliance has also filed for IPR for Indian and International patents covering the catalyst and the process.
