Over the past few days the fashion world looked with great interest to Istanbul. In parallel with Istanbul Fashion Week cpi – collection première istanbul (26 to 28 August) celebrated a premiere on the historic Taskisla Campus of Istanbul Technical University (ITU).

Buyers and profashionals attended cpi's 22 shows and viewed the 150 brands featured here. cpi – collection première istanbul is organized by the ITKIB (Istanbul Textile and Apparel Exporter Association) in collaboration with the Igedo Company.

Numerous renowned international brands and designers like G-Star, Gerry Weber, DP Jeans, Triumph, Antonio Croce and Annette Görtz presented themselves at the cpi premiere. For all participants Turkey and the Near East rate as markets of the future with enormous growth potential. Visitors came to both events from over 20 countries including Austria, Azerbaijan, Australia, Egypt, France, Georgia, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Russia, Syria, Tunisia, the Ukraine, the USA and Uzbekistan.

Hikmet Tanriverdi, President of the ITKIB: “With the launch of cpi we have come one important step closer to establishing Istanbul as a major fixture in the international fashion calendar. The fair along with Istanbul Fashion Week made for an exciting and rewarding fashion experience. The creative potential of our Turkish designers is just as great as the interest shown by international brands in Turkey and its neighbouring countries as sales markets.”

Mirjam Dietz, Executive Director Fashion Igedo Company: “We saw a very good kick-off to cpi. In addition to Turkish visitors we were delighted to welcome buyers from the Caucasus region, the south of Russia and various countries in the Near East. Many international manufacturers planning to come on board in February were also able to form an impression of cpi.”

Near East. Many international manufacturers planning to come on board in February were also able to form an impression of cpi.”

Monique Fischer, Vice President International Sales bei Gerry Weber: “cpi went extremely well for Gerry Weber. We held many talks and made very good contacts. This is what we expect of a well-functioning trade fair platform. Turkey and all of the Near East is a huge and extremely professional market right on our doorstep.”

As one of the most important producer nations in the global textile and clothing sector Turkey particularly offers those Turkish clothing manufacturers unable to participate at trade fairs abroad the chance to present their design-oriented collections to international visitors.

Hikmet Tanriverdi, President of the ITKIB: “The Turkish fashion industry has undergone major changes over the past few years. Today we are no longer a country that produces fashion but one that also designs and sells internationally. With hundreds of thousands of employees and exports worth US$ 20b we have marked out an all-new path for ourselves. This means Turkish fashion has at last made its mark globally. cpi has taken collection and designed-oriented Turkish clothing manufacture into a new era.”

The next cpi – collection première istanbul will be held in early February 2011. Exact dates will be announced over the next few weeks.
