Cato announces Nov same store sales climb 4%

Women's fashion apparel specialty store Cato Corp reported sales for the four weeks ended November 26, 2005 of $62.1 million, an increase of 9 percent over sales of $57.1 million for the four week period ended November 27, 2004. Comparable store sales for the month increased 4 percent.

Sales for the ten months ended November 26, 2005 were $663.2 million, an increase of 6 percent from sales of $623.0 million for the ten months ended November 27, 2004. The Company's year-to-date comparable store sales increased 1 percent.

During the month of November, the Company opened 10 stores. New stores opened in New Albany, IN, Danville, IL, Oakland, MD, Adrian, MI, Deming, NM, Piqua and Wauseon, OH, and Clear Lake Shores, Gainesville, and Tyler, TX.

The Company has nine stores that remain closed due to hurricanes this fall. Of these nine stores, seven are expected to open by early next year and two are expected to remain closed for an indefinite period of time.

As of November 26, 2005, the Company operated 1,232 stores in 31 states, compared to 1,169 stores in 29 states as of November 27, 2004.
