Woolmark debuts The Wool Lab S/S'17 at Pitti Uomo

The Woolmark Company launched its latest seasonal guide, The Wool Lab Spring/Summer 2017, exclusively at Pitti Uomo, being held January 12-15.

“The latest edition of The Wool Lab dedicates four out of six themes to a style that is suitable for both womenswear and menswear, while, additional themes have been created, focusing on wool in sport and activewear,” a press release said.

The Generations theme, the most traditional ongoing theme of the tool this season, is dedicated to fundamental family figures.

“Sons and daughters emulate their parents' style and desire to look like them, with different generations expressing a shared identity,” Woolmark added.

The luxury quality of wool textiles meets the design of traditional suits and jackets, dresses and knitwear; an evident trend that has an interesting impact in the choice of style, fabrics and patterns.

“The Barber's theme is where the old fashioned job is reinterpreted by young generations, influencing the male identity,” it observed.

Charming places come back to life, where men talk about public concerns and contemporary issues. The most classical fabric patterns are studied for lighter weights allowing a more fresh and contemporary look.

The Asian Flair theme presents an understated sensuality inspired by oriental feelings, where the everyday life of women enhance their femininity, wearing voluminous, but lightweight skirts and transparent embellished dresses.

In the Informal theme, the informal way of dressing looks as comfortable as refined, thanks to rigorous but creative new cultural interpretations of a contemporary lifestyle.

“The mix and match of jackets and utility pieces brings a sense of formality to a casual style,” the Aussie wool company noted.

According to Woolmark, once again, the New Makers theme is dedicated to innovative technologies able to combine traditional arts and experimental techniques; a new design movement imagines changing surfaces applied to strict shapes.

“The mission is merging the three-dimensional with the two-dimensional world, in order to create a forward-looking aesthetic,” it explained.

Meteriae is focused on artists as new artisans that take inspiration from the earth, using ancient techniques for unexpected and contemporary fabrics.

It presents a blend of cultures, colours and atmosphere. Materials are raw, expressive, made of vibrant materials; fabrics are dense but lightweight.

Pitti Uomo will also be the launch pad for a new sourcing tool completely dedicated to Sports in all its forms, emphasising the fibre's benefits and unique technical performances.

The Wool Lab Sport will show the potential of Merino wool and unveil the fibre's incredible fineness, softness and lightness: features that make wool the most comfortable choice and the ultimate performance fibre for activewear. (AR)
