There's traditional retail, and then there's Space NK. Space NK, the highly discerning chain of luxury beauty boutiques, which has already transformed United Kingdom's beauty shopping landscape (52 stores since 1996), opens its first US flagship stateside at 99 Greene Street in Soho.
Space NK founder and trendsetter Nicky Kinnaird brings an eclectic mix of the most coveted and craved beauty items from around the world.
"We held back opening in the U.S. until we were in the position to launch in a meaningful way, rather than just dip a toe in," says Kinnaird, who's introducing the American website and the store simultaneously, and has plans to open four more stores in the New York metropolitan area within the year, and then rollout nationally.
"We had to build a team that was completely indoctrinated into the Space NK world -- our uncompromising service standards, the essence of who we are, and our core beliefs."
The store will feature a 2,000 square foot selling floor showcasing more than 50 select specialty brands, including several exclusive skincare brands never before available in the US, as well as facial treatment rooms.
Whether a customer is looking for state-of-the-art skincare, editorial makeup artist- approved cosmetics, the purest organic options, or a fragrant bath/body indulgence, Space NK consistently delivers.
"Space NK is a place where people are passionate about product but also love working with people," adds Kinnaird. "You can have great products but if they're not recommended to the right people for the right reason, it won't work on any level. What we're offering is worthy innovation. You can't just offer new for newness sake."
Kinnaird, the ultimate beauty scout, has a bi-coastal clientele including Cate Blanchett, Keira Knightly, and Renee Zelleweger, who will assure that the new New York City flagship will become a regular stop for New Yorkers and world travelers alike.
