PSF prices dip slightly in Northeast Asia last fortnight

The prices of polyester staple fibre (PSF) decreased slightly in Northeast Asian markets last fortnight ending October 15, 2013 and analysts expect the prices to maintain a weak tone during the current fortnight.
 
PSF prices were quoted at US$ 1.43/kg by the end of the last fortnight, down 2.05 percent compared to the prices of US$ 1.46/kg registered during the corresponding period of 2012.
 
In the fortnight ending September 30, PSF prices were observed at US$ 1.44/kg. Thus, there was a decline of 0.69 percent during the October 1-15 fortnight compared to the earlier fortnight.
 
In the USD based market, prices for 1.4 den PSF remained stable due to weak support from the downstream buyers and prices were quoted in the range of US$ 1.40/kg to US$ 1.43/kg FOB N.E Asia basis in the last fortnight ending October 15.
 
Prices of 1.5 den PSF of Taiwan origin were quoted in the range of US$ 1.66/kg to US$ 1.70/kg, Europe origin PSF were offered between US$ 2.40/kg and US$ 2.52/kg, and US origin PSF were offered at US$ 2.62kg to US$ 2.64/Kg, respectively.
 
Meanwhile, prices of 1.5 den PSF of China origin for domestic and export market were offered at US$ 1.58 - 1.61/kg and US$ 1.40 - 1.44/kg, respectively.
 
In the current fortnight, prices of PSF are expected to maintain a weak tone due to subdued demand from the downstream buyers and weak macro economy outlook.
