There are 44 textile industrial clusters in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces, accounting for 50 percent of the industrial clusters in the country, and the man-made fiber production clusters derived from textile industry accounted for 68 percent of the country's total industrial clusters.
Based on productivity, Jiangsu and Zhejiang produced 12.56 million tons of man-made fiber in 2005, accounting for 65.2 percent of the country's total production.
In comparison, central China only produced 477,000 tons, composing a tiny share of 2.48 percent in the country's production.
However, clustered enterprises are not tantamount to competitive advantages. China had 698 man-made fiber enterprises in 2005, among which, 22 companies produced more than 200,000 tons annually, accounting for 3 percent, with accumulated productivity of 9.08 million tons, accounting for 47.2 percent, and with average annual productivity of 413,000 tons.
As for Jiangyin city, Jiangsu, its man-made fiber production accounts for 15 percent of the whole country's output, representing an important production base in China's man-made fiber production. But it embraces both the biggest and the smallest enterprises at the same time.
So Jiangyin should focus on build big scaled leading enterprises to meet the international market demand in the coming few years.
