Sara Lee appoints George Chappelle for global information technology activities

global apparel manufacturer & marketer sara lee corporation announced the appointment of george chappelle to the new position of chief information officer, effective june 1, 2005.
chappelle, 43, will be responsible for the company’s global information technology activities. he will report to l.m. (theo) de kool, executive vice president and chief financial and administrative officer.

with more than 20 years of information technology experience, chappelle joins sara lee from h.j. heinz company, where he served as vice president/chief information officer. prior to that, he served in a variety of management positions of increasing responsibility at the abb group, headquartered in zurich, switzerland, and the gillette company. chappelle also has held positions with polaroid, beth israel hospital and post-tron corporation.
