Christopher & Banks same-store sales up 12% in July

Minneapolis based women's apparel retailer Christopher & Banks Corporation reported total sales for the five weeks ended July 30, 2005 rose 12 percent to $41.1 million from $36.8 million last year, while same-store sales were flat with last year.
For the five months ended July 30, 2005, total sales increased 18 percent to $199.9 million from $169.2 million last year, while same-store sales increased 4 percent.
As of July 30, 2005 the Company operated 662 stores compared with 573 stores as of July 31, 2004.
Bill Prange, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, commented, "They are pleased that merchandise margins were above last year levels in July, which is traditionally a clearance period. In addition, they maintained tight inventory control and ended the month with in-store inventory per square foot 2 percent below last year. With cleaner inventory, they anticipate that merchandise margins will again show improvement over the prior year in August."
