Globe adopts Zephyr's PSM technology for turnout gear

Zephyr Technology, developers of Physiological Status Monitoring (PSM) solutions for the First Responder, announces a teaming agreement with Globe Manufacturing, the world leader in firefighter protective suits. Globe will integrate Zephyr's PSM technology into turnout gear allowing the monitored firefighter to suit up just as he does today.
"Globe has been engaged in multiple government funded research and development projects since 2006 with the goal of fielding a useful tool to help firefighters and first responders address the questions 'Where am I' and 'How am I,'" said Mark Mordecai, Director of Business Development for Globe.
"We are excited to join together with two 'best of breed' technology platform providers to transition years of research and development into a practical product that can make a significant difference in safety."
PSM monitors and wirelessly transmits vital sign information such as heart rate and breathing rate within the context of activity levels. Globe will be incorporating this technology into base-layer shirts that will be flame-resistant, moisture wicking and comfortable to wear throughout a 24 hour shift in place of a cotton T-shirt.
"This integrated capability addresses the need for early identification of fatigue, heat and stress-related health issues using protective gear that is currently used on the job," said Steven Small, Zephyr's VP of Business Development. The system is expected to be immediately useful for Workplace Assessment, Training, Rehabilitation, Incident Command, HazMat, SWAT and RIT operations. Beta field testing of the new Globe system will start in early 2011 with commercial deployment in early 2012.
