Govt plans to boost gems & jewellery exports by 4 times

The current exports of Gems and Jewellery from Pakistan has reached a figure of around US $40 million. The Government, by aiding the industry plans to boost it up to $1.5 billion in the next few years.
The Ministry of Industries, Production and Special Initiatives, gathered the stakeholders and formed a Strategy Working Group (SWOG) which was assigned to formulate plans for the development the Gems and Jewellery sector in Pakistan.
The Government with the help of the Pakistan Gems and Jewellery Development Company (PGJDC) has framed a policy to achieve the export target. For this authorities included training sessions for the artisans by arranging jewellery designing courses at Karachi and Rawalpindi, which will create technology awareness among designers.
According to experts these steps will definitely help in boosting the exports of gems and jewellery of the country.
