A Common Facility Center (CFC) that provides raw materials, dyeing agents, design aids, and technical assistance to the weavers, will be set up in West Bengal at all its 12 textile clusters.

The two major textile clusters at Shantipur in Nadia and Samudragarh in Burdwan, accounts for more than 5000 looms in the region and expects to have one CFC each. Mini clusters of the region include Udainarayanpur in Howrah, Mandirpara in North 24 Parganas, Mirjapur in Murshidabad, Toofangunj in Coochbehar and Bishnupur in Bankura.

Once in operation, the CFC will be administered by the committee of local weavers. According to officials in the handloom and textile department, the weavers will not only decide upon the price of the raw materials but will also determine the services to be rendered by the CFC. The magnitude of CFC will largely depend on the size of the cluster as well as on the amount of infrastructure required.

A training workshop for weavers of Shantipur was organized by the Textiles Committee in collaboration with the Directorate of Handloom and Textiles. The workshop aimed at illuminating them about the prospective exports from the region.
