The required steps have been taken by the ministry to rejuvenate handloom industry under the present government, said Minister Chamal Rajapaksa. These steps have been taken through various initiatives like textile villages, improving irrigation and water management, informed Mr Rajapaksa.
Mr. Rajapaksa was speaking after inaugurating a handloom textile training centre at Embilipitiya. The inaugural ceremony was held in the memory of late D.A. Rajapaksa. The Textile Development Minister, Mahindra Ratnathilake, was also present at the occasion.
Though, the current government has taken every effort for the promotion of this industry by granting various incentives and the Provincial Councils have also introduced various programs regarding this, all the handloom machines went out of operations under the open economy of the country, said Mr Rajapaksa.
By starting various training centres and textile villages, the government has launched a serious of programs for the promotion of handloom sector, informed Textile Development Minister, Mahindra Ratnathilake.
