Korea offers KSP assistance to Pakistan in textiles

South Korea has offered assistance to Pakistan in the field of textiles, under its Knowledge Sharing Program (KSP).

The assistance would be extended in the areas of planning, training and development, monitoring and energy efficiency project for the textile sector.

Korea Development Institute (KDI) experts, who visited Pakistan in April this year to discuss potential areas of KSP with Pakistan Government, identified four key areas from the 11 proposals submitted by the Economic Affairs Division (EAD) through diplomatic channel under 2012 KSP.

The four identified areas include energy efficiency project for textile sector; creating space for urban micro enterprises, higher education, management, training and development and strengthening of planning, monitoring and evaluation cell for SMEs.

To offer viable solutions on particular policy issues by conducting joint research, a six member team of Korea Institute of Development Strategy (KDS), which has been delegated for implementation of KSP, carried out a thorough survey and a pilot study of demand, during last month, in association with concerned Pakistani stakeholders.

The research team was headed by Mr. Lee, Kyong Koo, an Executive Director & Senior Research Fellow of KDS, an independent international policy think tank of Korea.

Speaking at the concluding session of the consultation, Secretary EAD appreciated the realistic approach adopted by the Korean Government for resolving Pakistan’s development policy issues by sharing Korean strategy.

Tagging KSP project as an example of genuine and long-term alliance between the two countries, he underscored the significance of the joint research, saying it would not only lay a strong foundation for policy formulation for selected sectors, but would also pave way for future cooperation in other areas of mutual interests.

Since launch of KSP in 2004, till date, the Government of Korea has engaged in research and consultations on around 300 topics with 33 partner nations.
