African National Congress (ANC) is worried by reports which reveal possibility of major retailers challenging the Government in court on restriction of Chinese textile imports. The ruling party has requested retailers to think over their move of legal action against the restriction.
Sources informed that ANC wanted retailers to co-operate with Government and manufacturers to help them meet their requirements for benefit of South African consumers.
ANC supports the Government's interim measure of restriction to safeguard employment and to allow local apparel and textile industries to rebuild and attain sustainable growth.
Co-ordination of retailers with Government and producers will enable development of textiles sector, fostering jobs and future economic growth.
