Plans to target $80 bl in exports in 2006

Kürsad Tüzmen, Trade Minister, announced at the congregation of Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), that they (exporters) expect to gain almost US $80 billion from foreign shipments in the coming year.

Turkey's success at implementing an economic reform program and establishing macroeconomic stability has been phenomenal.

Tüzmen also informed that Turkish exports in 2005 set a new record of $73.4 billion and that December exports also set a monthly record of $7.3 billion.

The minister expected final trade figures to show some $115 billion in imports for the year.

He urged all the provinces to increase their export activities.

He said that Turkish companies plan to participate in 250 trade fairs outside the country.

Tüzmen praised the quality control project - TurQuality – which has been a great success in baggin business from such giant retailers as Wal-Mart in the United States and the Aldi Group in Germany, as well as markets in Japan, and promised to add to the program to push Turkish exporters even further.

Readymade manufacturers and the confection industries led the nation's exports with an 18.7 percent share in total exports, valued at $13.7 billion, topping automotive and sub-industry exports with their 12.9 percent share.
