CAFTA boosts Carribean T-shirts sales to the US

While T-shirt imports from China grew by more than 1000 percent, Bangladesh and India followed at 374 and 270 percent respectively. Imports from Pakistan gained by 72 percent.

Significantly, a drop of 5 percent was recorded to $20.95 per dozen T-shirts. China cut its prices by 44 percent whilst India slashed prices by 46 percent. Notably, Indian T-shirts cost stood at $30.92 per dozen to China's $17.85 per dozen.

Industry insiders state that besides quotas removal, cotton prices seem to have affected the unit value of shipments that dropped fell in the first half of 2005.
