According to Foreign Trade Statistics Department of Turkey, in the first half of 2004, exports of apparel and clothing accessories (knitted) were US $3069 million, which claimed 10.6 percent of total exports of the country.
While exports of same goods were $3250 ml during January to June 2005; this was 9.3 percent of total exports.
In apparel and clothing accessories (non-knitted) category, exports during the same period (2004) stood at $2121 million, which was 7.3 percent of total exports, whereas in 2005, exports figures were $2404 million, securing 6.9 percent share of total exports of Turkey.
Exports of other made-up textile products during January to June (2004) were $892 million, which was 3.1 percent of total exports of Turkey. Exports in the same period for same products category registered $963 million, indicating 2.8 percent of total exports.
As regards cotton imports of Turkey during January to June (2004), it reached $1009 million mark with 3.1 percent of total imports of the country. But in 2005, during the same period, imports reached $1095 million at 2.7 percent of total imports.
Thus, in spite of considerable increase in value of exports and imports, apparels and garments have lost their share in total imports and exports.
