Preliminary statistics have revealed that sandal exports turnover in the first five months of 2006 reached 3.81 million pairs, representing year-on-year growth of over 40 percent.
EU remains the top importer of these products, especially prefering high–quality sandals.
Exports turnover from the EU during January-April 2006 period accounted for 85 percent of the total exports turnover of Vietnam, earning around US $16.14 million from 2.35 million pairs, registering year–on–year rise of 56.33 percent and 188.02 percent, respectively.
Among all the EU markets, Netherlands and Spain recorded highest exporting growth rate for these products.
Sandal with average price of $8 per pair contributed largest share, accounting for 35 percent of the entire export turnover with the sales of nearly 1.02 million pairs.
Beside the EU market, exports to Malaysia, Canada and others also saw sharp growth in the period.
