A clothing event designed to help ease the burden of buying school clothes and supplies by Clara Howard, wife of Pownal Valley fire department Assistant Fire Chief and town Constable Joel Howard.
She has launched a kids' clothing 'free-for-all' for town residents scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. on August 20 at the Pownal Valley Volunteer Fire Department fire house on Route 7.
All town residents with children enrolled in a public school are invited to come and choose from a variety of donated girls and boys clothing in a range of sizes.
Much of the clothing includes used items being donated by people whose children have outgrown them.
The clothing giveaway is viewed as a community event; most donors were delighted to find a positive outlet for the clothing.
Additional items such as notebooks, pens, pencils, and other school supplies will be available at no cost during the event although supplies of these items will depend on the amounts donated.
Working families and families with limited or fixed incomes are struggling with the rising cost of vehicle fuel, heating fuel, groceries, and all costs associated with daily life.
Few working people experience pay raises as the cost of living continues to escalate significantly and all families are stretching dollars and budgets to the breaking point.
Clara wanted to do something that could help out these families and help their kids and this novel distribution seemed best idea.
