UK retailers are off to a flying start for the bargain season that started Boxing Day and is anticipated to lure some 11 million shoppers to spend an average of GBP130 each (€190).

The British customer counting and tracking systems specialist SPSL released latest figures that showed the number of people went out for shopping on Boxing Day have increased by approx. 17.3 percent over the last year, due to the larger number of stores or outlets that began winter sales on 26 December for the first time.

Few shopping centres like the Bluewater shopping centre in Kent had experienced long queues of customers in the early morning waiting for stores like fashion retailer Next, which was attracting customers with huge discounts.

Long queues were also formed in front of retailers like Selfridges and Marks & Spencer in London.

Clothing and furniture retailers, who were not been doing good well before Christmas, seem to be doing particularly well, the BBC reported citing a retail analyst.
