Orient Craft, a leading garment manufacturer, will set up an apparel unit in Ranchi, and would also assist in constructing a textile park in Jharkhand. It will also train rural youth for employment, particularly in those districts where more migration is taking place. These decisions were taken when a company delegation met chief minister Raghubar Das.

Orient Craft, which specialises in manufacturing sportswear, has state-of-the-art production facilities across 21 units with a combined capacity to produce nearly 2,00,000 pieces per day. Currently, the company has an annual turnover of over $250 million.

Initially, the company will train village youth in Gumla, Dumka, Khunti and Simdega districts in Jharkhand. This will be in addition to the training centre in Lohardaga, where it has been imparting training through a three-monthly course under the skill development programme.

Chief minister Das assured the delegation that his government would extend full support for establishing garment unit in Ranchi, the construction of which is likely to start in March 2017. (RKS)
