Guests at the Fashion & Textile Museum in London on Thursday 15th February 2024 saw the launch of CELYS, the world's very first fully certified compostable polyester. Amidst the furore of New York and London Fashion Week, the launch was a refreshing change of scene with a relaxed and informative panel talk within the iconic setting of the Fashion & Textile Museum.

Known for her expertise and work on the environmental and social footprint of the fashion industry, writer, broadcaster, journalist and sustainability advocate Lucy Siegle moderated the panel discussion with the team behind CELYS . The panel discussed the origins of CELYS , the technological innovation andthe impact this could have on the wider industry.

Phoebe English, the founder of eponymous label Phoebe English Studio, is an award winning circular-fashion studio who have a mission to use biodegradable fabrics, off-cuts and repurposed materials throughout all of their collections. Phoebe gave her take as a design consultant on the benefits of the new technology, challenges facing designers today in being truly sustainable and what the future might hold for designers and brands alike.

CELYS seamlessly integrates advanced technology with sustainable practices. Created by INTIMITI AUSTRALIA PTY LTD, a science-driven venture founded in 2014, which is dedicated to the innovation of high performance materials that reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable circular economy.

With a mission to revolutionise the global textile industry with the first fully compostable polymer fibre, which biodegrades within 179 days. The team at CELYS have created a future where high-tech innovation, sustainability, and fashion converge to redefine the boundaries of possibility. Empowering those within the fashion industry to make environmentally conscious choices for a more positive impact on the planet. And this is just the beginning, next step is a textile-to-textile recycling technology and further degradation and compostability tests into domestic, soil and marine composting.

Certified by BPI, DIN and The Seeding Logo as a fully compostable fibre.

CELYS launched globally from 15th February 2024.
