Polyester market in China continued to remain inactive even in April. Not a single item in the industry chain showed any firm trend which is in stark contrast to the situation in the same period last year.
Prices of various types of polyester showed varying decline during the fag end of April. While semi-dull chip fell by 550 yuan per ton with average market price standing at 10,600 yuan per ton, polyester filament dropped by 250-400 yuan per ton.
Market price of 150 D/48F partially oriented yarn (POY) neared 11,700 yuan per ton while that of 1.4 D direct spinning polyester staple fiber averaged at 11,150 yuan per ton, plunging 425 Yuan per ton.
This apart, polyester yarn from downstream sector also saw a drop. Of these prices of polyester yarn 32s hovered around 14,700 yuan per ton.
The market started to soften by early April and fell further by middle of the month. The trend only continued for the later half of the month worsening the condition.
From the view point of inventories, stocks in most of the firms have risen to relatively high levels. POY, despite having very good sales has inventories enough for 12-15 days while FDY and DTY stocks may last 20 and 30 days respectively.
