Labs can now register online for the new and improved 2020 AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists) Proficiency Testing Programmes (PTP). The improvements include a new moisture management proficiency programme, and upgrades to current programmes. The 2020 PTPs offer exciting opportunities to ensure lab's textile testing capabilities.

New features for 2020 includes the introduction of the moisture management proficiency test (limited round). Featuring fabrics for labs to perform moisture management test methods covering wicking, drying rate, and comfort.

AATCC TM197, Vertical wicking of textiles: This test method is used to evaluate the ability of vertically aligned fabric specimens to transport liquid along and/or through them, and is applicable to woven, knitted, or nonwoven fabrics.

AATCC TM198, Horizontal wicking of textiles: This test method is used to evaluate the ability of horizontally aligned fabric specimens to transport liquid along and/or through them, and is applicable to woven, knitted, or nonwoven fabrics.

AATCC TM199, Drying time of textiles: Moisture Analyzer Method: This test method is intended to evaluate the drying time of knit, woven or nonwoven fabrics at an elevated temperature using a gravimetric moisture analyzer. By performing the test at non-standard textile conditions, it is possible to simulate drying at body temperature or to perform testing at temperatures that simulate conditions of use.

AATCC TM200, Drying rate of textiles at their absorbent capacity: Air Flow Method: This test method determines the drying rate of textiles at their absorbent capacity. This method is not for testing the drying rate for textiles taken from socks or hosiery.

AATCC TM201, Drying rate of fabrics: heated plate method: This test method determines the drying rate of a fabric, exposed to a prescribed volume of water, while in contact with a heated plate set at 37 °C, the skin surface temperature at which the human body starts to perspire. This method is applicable to all types of fabrics, including knits, wovens, and non-wovens, as well as to fabrics taken from end product items.

AATCC TM204, Water vapor transmission of textiles: This test method is used to determine the relative rate of water vapor transmission of textiles.

Besides the new features for PTP, AATCC has introduced new and improved colour evaluation PTP, new and improved repellency and resistance PTP, new and improved antibacterial testing PTP (half year only) introducing new and improved appearance PTP.

The colourfastness PTP is also new and improved with alternating test methods added for each round.

The fibre PTP includes fabrics which are shipped blind for identification and analysis.
