Amicor, the anti-microbial fibre from Thai Acrylic Fibre (TAF) of Aditya Birla Group has been tested effective against SARS-Covid-2 virus. Amicor is a specialty anti-microbial fibre, which is specially engineered by incorporating additives into the core of the fibre. The fibre has been tested according to ISO 18184:2019 against SARS-Covid-2 virus.

Fibre has also shown to reduce the number of infective virus particles by 99 per cent in only 18 seconds.

With these latest tests, Amicor has become one of its kind of a fibre with all three - antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral properties. “Amicor has been one of the most desirable fibres when it comes to hygienic products and has been one of the more preferred fibres when it comes to anti-bacterial and anti-fungal functions. With the new tests done against SARS-Covid-2 virus, Amicor now offers the highest level of protection against all the three kinds of micro-organisms, bacteria, fungus and viruses,” Thomas Varghese, business head, Acrylic Fibre, overseas spinning and domestic textiles, Aditya Birla Group, said in a press release.

What makes Amicor stand apart is the durability. The efficacy of Amicor fibre against microbes is proven to last long even upto 100 washes. “Amicor technology was developed to ensure a durable, long-lasting impact with the active ingredients inside the core of the fibre that keeps on replenishing itself to the fibre surface from the core. As compared to any tropical finish, which lasts only a few washes, Amicor has proven to be effective even after 100 washes. One of the latest success stories of Amicor is in denim where our customers have been able to retain the functionality of their fabrics even after heavy washes,” Ashwini Chotani, chief marketing office, TAF, said.

The effectiveness of Amicor fibre is not only in 100 per cent content, but also even in lower blend percentages, it enhances the anti-microbial properties of a fabric. Even with 50 per cent content of Amicor, the fabrics showed effectiveness against SARS-Covid-2 virus in the latest tests. “We have done testing of Amicor in blends with cotton, polyester, wool etc. and even with content as low as 50 per cent, the final fabric has shown to be effective against all the three kinds of micro-organisms,” Chotani said.
