Leading brand owners of retail products have been integrated to open shopping malls in India.

Leading brands in apparel, watches, cafes, footwear and FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) have made the Brand Owners Forum (BOF) here, with an intention to open nearly 300 malls across the country in coming three years.

V. Uday Kumar, BOF chairman informed that at present nearly 20 national brand owners have come joined their hands to form the BOF to promote malls.

Kumar also added that these brand owners consider the right tenant mix critical for the success of mall culture by combining retail, food and entertainment.

The brands in BOF include Adidas, Cafe Coffee Day, Hi Design, Himalaya Healthcare, ITC, Levi Strauss, Madura Garments, Nike India, Oyzterbay, Proline, Reebok India and Titan.

The capital, Delhi has taken the lead with nearly 30-35 malls in the region, whereas Mumbai follows with 15-20 malls. Metros like Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bangalore and Ahmedabad are likely to set up at least 10-20 malls each in the next two years.

Kumar explained that massive investment is required to set up a mall as at least 200,000 sq ft of space is needed with enough land for parking and free flow of traffic for the movement of hundreds of people.
