All Hecht's stores in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia will go in to Macy's kitty by Fall, 2006.
Macy's is owned by Federated Stores, which owns more than a dozen department store brands.
There's more in the pipeline as five regional stores including four (one in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Va., and three in Marley Station in Glen Burnie, White Marsh in Perry Hall, and Owings Mills in Owings Mills, and one Hecht's store in Wheaton, Md., will go on sale.
In sum, Federated will change 10 chains and 330 stores, bagging 730 Macy's locations offering upscale merchandise and national promotions to customers in most important markets.
Employees in Washington area will remain unaffected, sources said.
Meanwhile, the merger between Federated and May is going as planned, and is expected to complete in September.
