Clothing turnover shows marginal rise in July

According to the latest figures released by Statistics Netherlands, turnover in the Dutch retail trade in July was down by 3.6 percent on July 2004.

This decrease was mainly due to the difference in shopping day patterns between July this year and last year. Corrected for shopping day effects, turnover was about the same as in July 2004.

Retail prices in July were down by 1.1 percent on July 2004. The turnover volume was down by 2.5 percent.

The turnover of Dutch non-food stores in July was 3.6 percent lower than in July 2004. In this period there was a 1.2 percent price drop. The turnover volume fell by 2.5 percent.

Turnover in most branches of the non-food sector was lower than in the same period last year. Stores selling home furnishings and household articles saw a major dip in turnover, losing 6.7 and 6.1 percent in turnover respectively. Only clothing stores saw a turnover increase, namely a 0.8 percent rise.
