The seasonally adjusted estimate of turnover for the Australian Retail and Hospitality/Services series increased by 0.6 percent in August 2005, says Australian Statistics release today.
This follows a decrease of 0.1 percent in July and an increase of 1.1 percent in June 2005.
All states had an increase in the seasonally adjusted estimate in August 2005 with the largest increases occurring in Tasmania (+2.2 percent), the Northern Territory (+1.9 percent), the Australian Capital Territory (+1.4 percent) and Western Australia (+1.3 percent).
The Food retailing (+1.1 v), Department stores (+0.5 percent), Clothing and soft good retailing (+1.6 percent) and Household good retailing (+0.7 percent) industries had increases in the seasonally adjusted estimate for August 2005.
There has been five months of moderate growth in the trend. Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania have had strong growth for the past seven, four and eight months respectively.
As for Department stores, after four months of weak trend growth there has been moderate growth for the past two months.
Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and the Australian Capital Territory have had at least three months of moderate or strong growth, while New South Wales has had a decline in the trend estimate for four months, mentioned the release.
