TESTEX Indonesia in collaboration with Clariant Indonesia held a seminar on December 3rd, 2013 at JW Marriot Hotel Kuningan, Jakarta with the topic "Sustainable Production & High Performance Textile".

With increasingly demand of consumers and NGO’s towards more environmentally-friendly and socially responsible production of textile products, this topic refers to global interest.

This event was also supported by International Labor Organization (ILO), Indorama Synthetic Tbk., AmerSport, Archroma Singapore and School of Textile Technology Bandung. More than 200 textile professionals from brands, retailers, manufactures and textile organizations from various cities in Indonesia and neighboring countries like Singapore and Thailand had registered.

The seminar was opened with the welcome speech from Mrs. Titi Susanti (Director of PT. TESTEX Testing and Certification) followed by the first session “Sustainable Production”. Mr. Adrian Meili, Manager Industrial & Institute Service, TESTEX AG, Switzerland, started with the presentation about the new standard for sus-tainable textile production STeP by OEKO-TEX.

The modular structure of the certification system allows comprehensive analysis and evaluation of all relevant company areas regarding the use of environmentally friendly technologies, efficient use of resources as well as compliance with social working conditions.

It en-ables companies along the textile chain to publicly document their commitment to these requirements in a clear and transparent way. The second presentation was held by Mr. Hongky Kouw, Segment Manager Mar-keting Apparel & Interior, Archroma Singapore Pte. Ltd. (PT Clariant Indonesia).

He explained in detail the “ONE WAY” concept of sustainable textile production, a combination of Technology and Economy, regarding efficient use of chemicals, energy and water, as well as economic processes.

The first session ended with the speech by Mr. Mohamad Anis, Senior Enterprise Advisor, ILO, who informed about the “Better Work” social compliance program with the objective to improve working conditions and productivity to strengthen competitiveness in targeted labour-intensive sectors.
