Instagram launches new payments in chat feature for US customers

Instagram has launched a new ‘payments in chat’ feature that will let customers in the US purchase from qualified small businesses and track their orders in the same chat thread. Known as Meta Pay, it will enable the social media app’s 1 billion users to inquire and talk about product customisations and finalise the purchase, all in one place.
The feature will make checkout even easier and ensure payments are securely processed, said Meta on its website. Meta Pay will allow businesses to chat with customers in real time to answer queries and confirm purchase details. Sellers will also be able to create payment requests with item descriptions and price details.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg introduced Meta Pay to users in an Instagram post. “You can now buy products from small businesses and track your order in chat on Instagram in the US. Pay with Meta Pay and checkout in a few taps,” he wrote.
