Kopin unveils plug-and-play Mobile Video Eyewear at SID International Symposium

the bdm-230k is a complete binocular optical system that includes two cyberdisplay 230k full-color displays, backlights, drive electronics, and a pair of 24-degree field-of-view optics with 20-mm eye relief and 10-mm pupil size. the cyberdisplay 230k displays, the world's smallest and most power efficient qvga liquid crystal displays, are precisely aligned to the optics and to each other for viewing comfort.
the bdm-230k also includes audio pass-through connectors to simplify final assembly. the bdm-230k requires only 3.3 v power and video input, either in ntsc or pal format. measuring just 97.5 mm x 23.75 mm x 22.0 mm and weighing only 26 grams, the bdm-230k's low power consumption (<450 mw) allows long viewing time without recharging the battery.
"the bdm-230k concept was developed after input from customers who are seeking a turnkey solution for mobile video eyewear," said dr. boryeu tsaur, executive vice president and general manager of kopin's display division. "with the bdm-230k, we now offer a complete range of products from displays and electronic viewfinders for our large vertically integrated customers to subsystems for customers who prefer outsourcing for fast product development. several design-in activities for commercial eyewear products are under way with potential customers. production of the bdm-230k module is expected to start in a few months."
