Outlast Technologies Inc, the market leader in phase change materials (PCM), and specialty fiber manufacturer Kelheim Fibres GmbH announce they have succeeded in developing the first patented viscose fiber with Outlast technology.

This new fiber offers all of the benefits of regular viscose such as soft, fine feel - similar to cotton or silk-, the ability to absorb moisture and excellent hygienic properties while also providing Outlast's temperature-buffering capability for extreme comfort.

Until now, temperature regulating properties had only been incorporated in acrylic fibers. By successfully integrating Outlast microcapsules in a viscose fiber, Outlast is able to offer a wide-range of opportunities for climate regulation previously unavailable. “With their ability to absorb excess heat, PCM fibers in apparel provide excellent temperature
buffering and comfort”, said Pat Gruber, CEO of Outlast Technologies.

“Our new Outlast viscose fiber allows us to apply the benefits of our technology to intimate apparel, knitwear, women's wear such as dresses and even more mainstream products like shirts/blouses and pants. Our home furnishings offering will also be enhanced with the addition of Outlast viscose fiber for use in bedspreads, blankets, sheets and mattress ticking.”

Outlast viscose fiber is a man-made cellulosic fiber that can be blended with virtually any fiber from cotton, polyester and polyamide to technical fibers such as aramid.“We collaborated with Kelheim Fibres, based in Southern Germany, on the development of the Outlast viscose fiber.”
