bluesign technologies ag announces that Formosa Taffeta Co Ltd Taiwan (FTC) performs a second bluesign re-screening. In doing so, FTC continues to rely on the bluesign standard in practically managing all environment, health and safety (EHS) issues in its manufacturing sites.

FTC was the first company in Asia to perform a bluesign screening. They already brought their first "bluesign approved fabric" products to market as early as 2001. Goal of the 2nd re-screening is to significantly extend the "bluesign approved fabric" product range.

In the future, not only polyester and polyamide products will be labelled "bluesign approved fabric", but also products made of cotton as well as laminated and coated fabrics. Thereby, the extraordinary environmental awareness of FTC shall be represented also to consumers and retailers.

The bluesign screening includes a detailed on-site evaluation of the environment, resource and workplace situation of the textile manufacturing sites according to the five principles of the bluesign standard namely resource productivity, consumer safety, air emission, water emission and occupational health and safety.

All used chemicals, dyestuffs and auxiliaries and their handling will be checked on-site. In addition to the input streams and the processes in the production also the end-of-pipe situation will be checked.

During the re-screening at FTC in Taiwan, bluesign technologies ag could observe excellent EHSconditions, particularly regarding the waste water treatment (State of the Art).

Also FTC's dyeing technology is on a very high level, fully computerized and considers various criteria regarding the dyeing kinetics as well as the characteristics of the substrate and the dyestuffs, which reflects "Best Available Technology".

Formosa Taffeta Co Ltd was founded in April 1973 and headquartered in Touliu City, Yunlin County, Taiwan. At that time in Taiwan, textile manufacturing industry and export business were flourishing. Formosa Chemicals and Fibre Co, a subsidiary of Formosa Plastics Group, cooperated with a selected number of private investors to establish FTC.
