Dyestuff imports decreasing gradually

According to Chinese customs statistics, imports of dyes and organic pigments decreased in the first half of 2007. Rise in domestic demand for higher grade dye and organic pigments has increased value of these imports.

During this period, country's dye imports reached 33,500 tons, a drop of 2.3 percent compared to the same period last year. Import value amounted to US $209 million, up 6.7 percent.

Though reactive dye imports has been showing a downward trend in the past two years, in the first half of this year, it touched 16,323 tons, a rise of 7.7 percent and accounting for 48.8 percent of the total dye imports.

Import value was 20.9 percent, reflecting a considerable market demand for reactive dyes. Vat dyes import value recorded a faster growth of 65 percent; the import volume, however, was small.

In the first half of 2007, China imported dyes from 42 countries. Imports from Thailand and India are growing faster, which were up by 23.4 percent and 19.8 percent respectively.
