Minister Zargar inaugurates first 'Wool Buyer Seller Meeting Hall'

At the inauguration of the Buyer Seller Meeting Hall,(Wool Mandi) constructed at a cost of Rs 18 lakh at Nowshera in downtown Srinagar Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives, Mr Abdul Aziz Zargar stated that the government has taken an excellent step to support price to the wool growers of the state, have created a revolving fund of Rs 3.50cr.

The action is to remove exploitation to the sheep and wool producers by the mediators, who purchasing wool at a cheapest cost from poor sheep breeders and sell it at higher price in the market.

The Wool Mandi, is constructed to benefit primary wool growers to sale and buy their wool produce face to face, directly without any midieator. The would result that the wool growers to get better price of their wool produce.

The Minister of State for Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Mr Yash Paul Kundal, Secretary, Sheep and Animal Husbandry, Dr Mohammad Din, Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir, Mr R.P> Tandon, Managing Director J&K Sheep and Sheep Production Development Board, Dr A.K. Misri and about 200 wool sellers and buyers from within and outside the state including buyers from Ludhiana and Amritsar participated in the buyer-seller meet.

The State produces about 58 kgs of wool annually, off which 60 per cent wool is of fine quality. The J&K Sheep and Sheep Production Development Board procures only 5 to 7 per cent of this total wool production and the present government has taken several measures to provide market support for wool to save sheep producers from middlemen.

Addressing to the sheep and wool buyers and sellers Mr Kundal explained that the current government is very much interested in the welfare of sheep breeders. “wool procurement rate has been increased from Rs 22 per kilogram to Rs 44 to provide support to the wool growers. He said livestock in the vital sector of state's economy which requires further quality improvement to withstand stiff market competition” he added.
