Agro-technical work on cotton growing is currently under way, an Azeri newspaper quoted the minister as saying.
A cotton processing plant in Ujar with an annual capacity of 40,000 tonnes is nearing completion, he said. The plant will also produce 20,000 tonnes of cottonseed oil and 2,500-3,000 tonnes of cottonseed.
Construction of nine plants began in the Light Industry Park in Mingachevir and two of these turned operational last February, while the construction of the other seven will be completed before 2021, he said.
The country aims at raising the production of cotton to 500,000 tonnes by 2022. (DS)
