The Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) will verify all measurement instruments for lengths, especially those used in selling fabrics, as per the metric system, the council recently announced. Use of yards in length measurements is no longer permitted in official transactions, the council said, referring to a recent UAE cabinet decision.

The council asked all fabric traders in Abu Dhabi to adhere to the new metre unit requirements by advertising all prices per metre and changing their sale and billing systems accordingly, according to media reports in the Gulf region.

The council will conduct inspections and monitoring campaigns throughout this month to ensure the news system’s implementation.

The decision is in line with the objectives set by Abu Dhabi's plan to build a sustainable and globally competitive economy, Sultan Al Mehairi, director of information services and engagement at QCC, said. (DS)
