The Turkiye-US Business Council (TAIK) and representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) Turkiye, an association representing 125 American companies operating in the country, recently met in Istanbul and discussed further bolstering bilateral economic ties.

The meeting was titled ‘Looking Ahead in Turkiye-US Trade Relations’.

An AmCham Turkiye delegation will visit Washington, DC, from September 12 to 15 and meet representatives from the US Congress, Senate members and leading think tanks. The delegation plans to hold nearly 50 one-on-one meetings, AmCham Turkiye president Tankut Turnaoglu said.

The trade chamber will also hold a reception hosted by the Presidential Investment Office and the Washington Embassy to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Turkiye in Washington, where chamber members will meet with Turkish-American business and public representatives, Turnaoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish media reports.

The delegation will also visit New York during the week of the United Nations General Assembly, he said. A project named ‘Global Turks’ may be launched as well, he hinted.

Trade Winds 2024, a key commercial event of the US government, will take place in Turkiye on May 15 next year, he added.

Bothe the countries aim to achieve $100 billion in annual bilateral trade in the coming years. The figure now is around $30 billion.

Supply chain disruptions, the path to opening nearby markets and production bases around the world, and the reshaping of trade routes, alongside the suppressed demand after the epidemic, have had a positive impact on trade between both sides, as witnessed in the growing trade volume in the last three years, TAIK chairperson Mehmet Ali Yalcindag noted.
