CFTI courses do not have many takers: director
Around 60% of the footwear exported from India is manufactured in Tamil Nadu and that industry creates 25,000 jobs in the state every year, according to Chennai-based Central Footwear Training Institute (CFTI) director K Murali, who recently urged people to consider footwear manufacturing as a career option. CFTI courses do not have many takers, he said.

Every two months, there are about 6,000-7,000 vacancies on an average in the sector, he said.

CFTI is an autonomous organisation under the micro, small and medium enterprises ministry. It offers seven long-term and eight short-term courses. (DS)
