Bangladesh has approved Tk 90.6 million for a project to manufacture biodegradable jute bags, popularly called Sonali bags, and conduct advance research on the environment-friendly product. The Bangladesh Climate Change Trust Fund, formed under the ministry of environment, forest and climate change in 2010, allocated the amount at a recent meeting.

The project will help the government achieve the seventh five-year plan and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Bangla media reported citing an official press release.

A laboratory with modern equipment will be set up for research on the bags. (DS)
