In the euro area in June 2023, compared with May 2023, the volume of retail trade decreased by 0.2 per cent for non-food products, while it increased by 1.0 per cent for automotive fuels. In May 2023, the retail trade volume increased by 0.6 per cent in the euro area and by 0.3 per cent in the EU, Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU, said in a press release.
In the EU, the volume of retail trade decreased by 0.2 per cent for non-food products, while it increased by 0.7 per cent for automotive fuels.
Among member states for which data are available, the largest monthly decreases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Slovenia at -2.6 per cent, Romania at -1.9 per cent, and Portugal at -1.6 per cent. The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg at 2.6 per cent, Netherlands at 1.5 per cent, and Belgium at 1.2 per cent.

Among member states for which data are available, the largest yearly decreases in the total retail trade volume were registered in Slovenia at -15.7 per cent, Estonia at -8.7 per cent, and Hungary at -8.3 per cent. The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg at 16.3 per cent, Spain at 7.5 per cent, and Cyprus at 6.5 per cent.
